Well arranged art can alter the atmosphere of room Misplace it a bit and the whole atmosphere falls outside balance. Give it a bit of attention so that it works.
Use the two-thirds rule as base. When you hang images or group them, they should be around two thirds of the width of the furniture below. The same proportion counts for the vertical space, intend that the art cover between two thirds and three quarters of the wall.
How to Hang Art and Pictures
Above sofa or dresser, preserve that samon proportion.
Rules serve to be broken, especially if they are too strict. High ceilings for example swallow art that limits to two-thirds size. Here go bigger.
Multiple bits or vertical stress gives right scale to the room and create unity instead of distance.
For the height, start at 60 inches from the floor for the central spot (do not overthink it). Advantage of this is that frame size does not matter. Designers mostly intend between 57 and 60 inches for that centre, whether one bit or group.
For arrangement, find the centre of the whole and match it to 57 inches. The bottom edge should be 8 to 10 inches above the furniture, around 20 to 25 centimetres above sofa., what gives ground and tie.
Spacing between frames matters more than you think. For gallery or salon style, leave 3 to 6 inches between bits. Too little and everything feels cramped; too much and they do not relate.
For groups, 2 to 3 inches work well. Grid arrangements require closer, between 2.5 and 4 inches according to frame size. Every frame receives equal breath around it, otherwise the wall distracts from the art.
Really you intend a sweet spot: enough space for air, but closely so that bits dialogue. Between 2 and 5 inches answer for most cases, and designers agree about that.
Lay the biggest bit as anchor of the gallery wall, then arrange smaller ones around it to avoid crowding. Mix sizes and forms for character without havoc. Odd numbers, one, three or five, give better rhythm than pairs.
But confine it to one gallery wall each room; several make the space stuffed and shrink the atmosphere. For accent walls, use oversized pieces instead, they extend 2 to 4 feet to command the space and set the mood.
