Fabric valances bring soft and fancy feeling to windows with their common material and texture. Usually you set them to board or decorate them with nice hardware. Although cornices have other structure, they serve the same goal, both immediately improve the upper parts of your window.

Finding the right style is the funniest part. You will find flat valances, reversed pleats, box pleats, adapted pleats, styles with rod pockets, tab tops and pinch pleats. Some designs have accumulated, cascading or balloon impacts, that creates ways in the fabric for give visual interest and depth.
Adapted valances deserve special mention, they have such timeless, elegant feeling, that operates well without excessive complexity. Those pure, straight-line bits give sophisticated and streamlined apperance. They shine alone or together with equal curtain panels.
