Gel strippers

Best all-around choice for vertical furniture, cabinet, and trim surfaces because the product stays wet longer and clings to edges.

Paste strippers

Useful on thick buildup, rough wood, and masonry. They cover fewer square feet per gallon but can reduce repeat applications.

Aerosol detail work

Efficient for tight corners, hardware marks, and small metal profiles, but poor for broad furniture or room trim coverage.

Heat plus scrape

6Coverage tips

Keep the coating wet. Most stripper coverage estimates assume the film stays wet through the dwell window. If it dries early, plan a thicker coat, plastic covering, or smaller working sections.
Measure profiles generously. Spindles, carved drawer fronts, raised cabinet panels, and brick faces have more real surface than their flat outline suggests, so use the detail profile factor instead of only length by width.

A common starting point for stripping paint is a plan. Maybe you’ve found a beat-up dresser you want to refinish. Or maybe you just want to change your cabinet color.
