The IKEA dishwasher IUD8500 is a great dishwasher for small families or those with limited space. However, like any appliance, it can malfunction.

Why Is IKEA Dishwasher IUD8500 Not Draining?
- Clear Obstructions
If your IKEA dishwasher is not draining, an obstruction may prevent water from flowing out. Begin with checking the drain hose for any kinks or clogs. If the hose is clear, the pump may be an issue.
Try unplugging the dishwasher and removing the lower panel.
Locate the pump and check for any debris. If you find any, remove it and see if the dishwasher will drain. If the pump is clear and the dishwasher still won’t drain, the issue may be with the drain valve.
Try cleaning out the valve with a toothbrush or other small brush.
- Check the Alignment of the Garbage Disposer
The garbage disposer is not properly aligned if your dishwasher is not draining. The garbage disposer should be in proper alignment with the dishwasher drain hose for the dishwasher to drain properly.
Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel to check the alignment.
Locate the garbage disposer and check the alignment with the dishwasher drain hose. If it is not, realign it and see if the dishwasher will drain.
- Check the Draining Pump
At times there could be an issue with the draining pump. To check the pump:
- Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel.
- Locate the pump and check for any debris.
- If you find any, remove it and see if the dishwasher will drain.
- If the dishwasher has worked previously without any issues, and you cannot find any debris in the pump, it is possible that the pump itself is defective and will need replacement.
- Replace the Drain Valve
If cleaning out the drain valve does not fix the issue, it is likely that the valve itself will be damaged and will need to be replaced.
To do this:
- Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel.
- Locate the drain valve and unscrew it from the dishwasher.
- Screw in the new drain valve and reassemble the dishwasher.
- Plug it in and run a test cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.
- Check the Valve Ball
The valve ball may be the issue if water is not draining from your dishwasher. Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel to check the valve ball.
Locate the valve ball and see if it is properly seated in the valve body. If it is not, seat it properly and see if the dishwasher will drain.
The issue may be with the valve body if the valve ball is properly seated and the dishwasher will not drain. Try cleaning out the valve body with a toothbrush or other small brush.
- Replace the Pump
If you have checked for obstructions and verified that the pump is receiving power, but the dishwasher still will not drain, the pump may be damaged and need to be replaced.
To do this, unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel. Locate the pump and unscrew it from the dishwasher.
Then, screw in the new pump and reassemble the dishwasher. Plug it in and run a test cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.
- Restart the Dishwasher
If your dishwasher will not start or if it stops mid-cycle, try restarting the dishwasher. To do this, unplug the dishwasher and then plug it back in. Press the “Start” button and see if the dishwasher will resume its cycle.
If the dishwasher does not start or if it stops again, there may be an issue with the control panel.
- Check the Control Panel
The control panel could be defective if the dishwasher does not start or stops mid-cycle. Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel to check the control panel. Locate the control panel and check for any loose wires.
If there are any, tighten them and see if the dishwasher will start. If the dishwasher does not start, replace the control panel.
To replace the control panel:
- Unplug the dishwasher and remove the lower panel to check the control panel.
- Locate the control panel and unscrew it from the dishwasher.
- Screw in the new control panel and reassemble the dishwasher.
