Headboards form decorative and useful parts of beds, standing at the head end They work as visual centers that improve the look of the bedroom, giving support and stopping cushions from falling out. You can make them from different materials, for instance wood, metal, leather or fabric. The styles range from simple panels to complex prints or rich tufted versions.
To choose a headboard, mind its measures carefully. Usually they are as wide as the mattresses that match them, with extra 2 to 4 inches. Twin headboards have width of 41 inches or 104 cm.
How to Choose a Headboard
It well attaches to the width of such beds. For twin headboards you need a room of 7 by 10 feet, although the best size is 10 by 10 feet. One full-size headboard has dimmensions of 62 inches wide and 39 inches high.
Standard full-size headboards start at 56 inches or 142 cm wide. Full-size headboards commonly are a bit shorter, so that the whole image matches with the bed and room. For king size mattresses the headboard needs width of 80 inches.
King headboards at 73 inches would be a bit too little, it should reach 80 inches or more. One king size tufted headboard has 81.5 inches wide and 36 inches high. Bedroom for king bed requires at least 12 by 12 feet, so that everything fits well.
King size beds usually have headboards of 40 to 54 inches high, to balance the whole thing.
Best count how much space will take other furniture as footboards, cabinets and night tables, for no overfilling the room.
Also the height of headboard matters. On average you find 110 cm, which allows a gap of 35 to 75 cm above the mattress. Headboards can reach 58 inches high, which is standard for traditional beds with footboards and side rails.
Some bed frames however use lower headboards. In room with low ceiling of around 8 feet most work headboards under 40 inches. For ceilings of 8 to 9 feet work specific heights: twin at 14 inches, queen at 28 inches and king at 58 inches.
