Measure after flooring is installed: rough framing dimensions can be wider than the actual finished transition. Use the visible opening at the surface where the strip will sit.
Check width before quantity: a strip that is long enough can still fail if it does not cover the gap plus overlap on both finished flooring edges.

Before purchasing any transition strip, take measurements of your doorways. Transition strips is not simply for looks, they serve as structure as well.
