The depth of the bench is another critical measurement. The depth will determine the amount of support that the bench will provide for an individual’s thigh. A deep bench will allow an individual’s thighs to rest in a more comfortable position, but they will be further then the table.
For these reasons, dining benches are often manufactured with a more narrower depth for the seat. The length of the bench must be considered based off the number of individuals that will be using the bench and the dimensions of the area in which the bench will be located. For example, a bench that is designed to accommodate two individuals may be suitable for a narrow entryway in a house.
If more individuals is to use the bench, the length of the bench will have to be increased. An increased length of a bench is required to provide enough room for the elbows of the individuals and to provide comfort to the individuals while they are shift their bodies. A bench that six individuals are to use will be of a greater length than a bench that is designed to accommodate four individual.
The various use of a room will have an impact on the dimensions that are required for the bench. For example, an entryway bench is typically higher than a bench that is used in another part of the house. Outdoor benches will have a greater depth and height than indoor benches due to the use of cushions on outdoor bench.
A window seat will have a greater depth than other benches due to the tendency of individuals to lean against the wall. Finally, a storage bench will have a different height for the seat due to the lid that is used in these bench. The weight that the bench can support is another critical measurement for a bench.
A bench that can support less weight than another is referred to as a light duty bench. These type of benches are used for occasional use of the bench. A standard bench can support more weight and is used for daily use.
Outdoor and public benches will have a greater weight capacity than indoor benches as they will be exposed to the weather and numerous individual will use them. Benches made of solid wood can be repaired if damaged, but metal frame benches will be able to support more of the weight of individuals who sit on the bench. Benches with upholstery will provide comfort to individuals who sit on the bench, but will be more difficultly to clean and less durable than non-upholstered benches.
In measuring for a bench, there are certain steps that must be followed. For instance, the builder should measure the area in front of the bench to ensure that individuals can walk past the bench without hitting the knees of the individuals who sit on the bench. The thickness of the cushions that will be provided for the bench must be accounted for in the measurement of the height of the seat.
Additionally, the doors may interfere with the placement of the bench, so the swing of the doors in the area should be measured. By accounting for these measurements, the builder will ensure that they will avoid any problem with the bench seating.
