5Baluster planning tips
Measure the finished clear work. The calculator deducts posts and openings from the total outside run. If you already measured inside face to inside face for every bay, enter a very small post width so the model does not deduct the posts twice.
Round up by bay, not by total run. A railing with many short bays often needs more balusters than one long average line because each bay must satisfy the maximum clear gap on its own.

Measure the run of the balcony, then count number of posts. To be code compliant, typically, you want no more than a 4” space between posts.
