Always buy a few extra hooks per pack — it's common to need replacements over time.
Getting the distance between curtain hooks can change how the curtain look and hang. Usually, you lay ring each 4 to 8 inches but the number of pleat, the fullness of the fabric and own preferences also matter. If you space the hooks in 4 to 6 inches you escape around 70% of common problems about sagging.
That genuinely helps.
How to Space Curtain Hooks
And for curtains with heading tape, the hooks should lay about every 4 to 6 pockets. Make sure that the hooks are equally distributed on the tape. The three pockets on the heading tape allow you to move the curtain between 1 and 3 inches.
Before you gather the curtain, bind the strings at the other end with a sliding knot. Lay the hooks in the upper, middle or bottom pocktes… But never in the string, and space them equally every fourth pocket.
When you draw the string of wave or rufflette style curtains, the upper part folds and create that special style. The general advice is attach such hooks with distance of around 10 cm between each.
Start by putting a hook at every end of the hem of the curtain. Later continue by placing hooks at every seam, ensuring that they are equally spaced. When you reach the end, add last hook like at the start.
If you leave bigger spaces between the hooks, you will create more dramatic pleat.
Pleating tape has channels that are spaced in 1 inch. Here the pleating hooks fit to draw the fabric together. Good method is use the back tabs as centre and go 4 to 5 spaces on every side, to create more evident pleat.
For pencil pleat curtains, lay the hooks each 6 to 7 spaces; that longer interval gives more squeezed face.
Curtains of designers commonly use rings that do not slip. Instead, the rings have little eyelet, through that you put the hook, so that the curtain hangs from the ring. To count how many rings are needed, divide the length of the curtain rod by 3 for normal panels, or by 4 for full panels.
The simplest way to space the hooks is spread the fabric flat and lay hook at every end first. Ideally, the curtains should be threefold broader than the window. First count how many hooks are needed and later distribute them equally.
Lay two hooks at the central edge give extra stability and strength. With a curtain calculator you can find the amount of material, the lining, the header tape and the space for extra brackets and hooks for anywindow.
