Choosing the right size for Wall Art can seem difficult. If one chooses something too big, it can clutter the whole room. Even so there are some simple tips that make the whole thing much easier.
One commonly says that the Wall Art must have a width of two thirds to three quarters of the furniture under it. That counts for sofas, beds, tables and similar dining tables. For instance, if a sofa has a width of 6 feet, then the piece on it fits in a range of two thirds to three quarters.
How to Choose the Right Size for Wall Art
If one pauses a moment to measure the wall, one ensures that canvas prints or framed images appear in perfect size, neither too small nor too bold.
Another way to think is based on the wall itself. The art covers around 60 to 75 percent of the wall width. So if the wall measures 100 inches, pieces must cover between 60 and 75 inches of that area.
Naturally that depneds also on furniture and other elements in the room, that limits the possible size of the piece.
Here is a practical tip. One measures the space to fill, then multiplies the length and the height of that area by 0.7. That helps to find the right size for one single image or for the whole surface, when one combines several pieces together.
When one talks about several pieces, two or more small works, spread across the wall, can reach that 60 to 75 percent width. An empty wall simply is a base for many fancy ideas. A gallery arrangement with frames of different sizes works well, or one big striking piece can nicely fill the area.
The whole artwork covers two thirds too three quarters of the free wall space, to reach a balanced look.
For pieces that truly stand out, the Wall Art must have a size between 2 and 4 feet. Such pieces can control the space and change the feel of the room. Big picture formats like 12×16 or 16×20 commonly work for photographs that are meant to be the main spot, for instance a portrait or wedding photograph above the fire.
The center of the canvas should sit at eye height for the most pleasant sight. That also deals with the good balance between decoration and the use of the room. Funny artworks work for kitchens, while quiet images create a calm feel in a bedroom.
The scale is important. One always must compare the size of thepiece with the wall and the general proportions of the room.
