Drawer Slide parts are practical tools that help to slide drawers in furniture and from them without trouble. In almost every home they find themselves, because without those little aids one simply can not use drawers well. Look at any TV stand kitchen counter or bathroom cabinet, everything depends on these little sliding parts to work well.
Various kinds of Drawer Slide exist. Side-mount slides usually install more simply for beginners, because one sees them clearly and reach them easily during the process. Under-mount slides require only 3/8 inches of space, on the other hand side-mount require around one inch.
Drawer Slide Parts: Types, Sizes and Care
During the choice of slides, one must consider the length of the sliding parts, that relates to the actual size of the drawer. Full-extension slides allow to pull the whole content of the drawer outward, what increases a lot the usefulness. Half-extension slides do cost less than full versions.
The weight limit is another spot to think about. The most common Drawer Slide parts last between 50 and 75 pounds without problems. Heavy-duty Drawer Slide parts fit to bear even up to 250 pounds, when one requires to lift something truly massive.
Some models handle loads up to 220 pounds. For workbench or garage storage heavy-duty slides commonly surpass the soft-close tpyes.
Soft-close slides have a spring system, that stops drawers from closing too hard. Even so that spring can require a bit more push to open the drawer sometimes. Some drawers with soft-close systems need regular fixing.
Otherwise they can stay half closed or require extra pressure to fully close. In certain cases one uses cardboard spacers inside of the slides to reach the desired fit.
Blum is a well known brand in that field. They are popular because of their under-mount slides, although not always cheap. The line Blum Movento brings all sorts of changes, but think about the higher price.
The series Grass Dynapro 3D is seen as at least equal in quality to Blum Movento and surpasses the Blum Tandem slides, although the edges for drawers can seem a bit thick. Hettich is another brand, that is worth to know, its slides own several holes four screws, that means vertical or horizontal changes. Amerock and Vogt, just as Richelieu, are extra names, that one finds on Drawer Slide parts.
Over time, the screws, that hold the Drawer Slide to the counter, can loosen or even fall out, what makes the slide useless. When slides get covered with grime and fat, good cleaning commonly settles the cause. Drawers, that jam, maybe swelled because of moisture, and sanding the high parts can help fix that.
To replace old parts, first one must remove the drawer with the old slides, and later exactly measure to buyfit new bits.
