Choosing the right size of Couch can be hard. A normal Couch usually measures between 72 and 96 inches in length 30 to 40 inches in depth and 30 to 36 inches in height. Here are the most common three-seat models, that one finds in stores.
Even so, if you check various styles and kinds, you will find a lot of differences.
How to Choose the Right Couch Size
A normal three-seat Couch can fit at least three people and usually has 82 inches of length, 36 inches of depth and 32 inches of height. Some models of three-seat Couches go from 84 to 108 inches in length, which works more for big living rooms. Around 84 inches is the most commonly found legnth for average Couches.
Two-seat Couches, or loveseats, are smaller, normally around 52 inches long, although some bigger versions reach almost 60 inches in length. In short, loveseats are two-seat Couches, that offer same comfort, but in a more compact shape.
So, about four-seat Couches, they range between 96 and 129 inches in length. That really is an impressive peace of furniture. When one wants even bigger something, for instance U-shaped sectional Couch with five or six seats, those are meant for big rooms, where guests commonly get entertained.
For apartment living, a Couch in the range of 70 to 80 inches works well. Buying a big sectional for a studio apartment will take up the whole floor area. A three-piece chaise section could give extra comfort, even so moving it through the room creates trouble, when the Couch takes up everything.
Furniture meant for condos exists for good reason, and fitting pieces for a house in little space can easily overload the general look of the room.
Use this general rule: a Couch takes up around two thirds of the room. For planning out what will work, measure first the length and width of the space. The Couch must stand as the main piece, without making everything seem tight.
Around all areas, where folks must walk past, you should leave at least three and half feet offree space.
Some sections have up to 48 inches of depth, because they are meant for lying down and sleeping. There is no single standard measure, because each maker uses different widths and depths for arms. A Couch of 70 inches will fit differently than one of 87 inches, even in the same room.
Beyond just length, the depth of the seat and the height of the back also matters. Custom Couches let you change the size for a specific place, which really helps, when one counts every inch.
