Reach first: A deep top is only useful if the back half stays reachable or the bench can be accessed from the side. Wall benches usually feel better around 20 to 28 inches unless a fixed tool demands more.
Count what sticks out: Drawer pulls, clamp racks, pegboard bins, vise handles, saw fences, and storage overhangs reduce the aisle just like the benchtop does.
