Election of the right size for Chandelier can seem hard but some basic rules simplify the task. The right sizes help to balance the look of the room, give feeling about ceiling height and ensure good general light. Chandelier too big can dominate the space, while too small commonly leave impression of poverty and do not succeed to stress the design.
Height of ceiling, size of table, proportions of the room and goals of design all affect the choice of the ideal size. Chandelier that seems impressive in formal dining room with 10-foot ceilings, looks entirely wrong in little kitchen corner with usual 8-foot ceilings.
How to Choose the Right Chandelier Size
In dining rooms the diameter of Chandelier ideally matches to one-half to two-third of the width of the table. For instance, for table wide at 48 inches and long at 60 inches, Chandelier with diameter between 24 and 36 inches would work well. Diameter should be around one foot more small than the width of the table, so that none risk striking the head.
When two less big Chandeliers are used above long table, each of them should have diamater in around third of the width of the table.
Also the hanging height matters. Usually one measures 30 to 34 inches above the table, if the ceiling has 8 feet. For higher ceilings, one add 3 inches for every extra foot of height.
Between the Chandelier and the floor always must stay at least 8 feet of distance.
For spaces like living rooms or gateways one uses another rule. One adds the length and width of the room in feet, and that amount in inches gives the write diameter of Chandelier. Room of 12 by 14 feet would need Chandelier in around 26 inches.
That method works for typical rooms with 8 to 9-foot ceilings. When ceilings are higher or the space much more big, one maybe will have to adjust the rule.
For little rooms Chandeliers of 13 to 22 inches wide mostly work. For medium spaces best work Chandeliers between 23 and 30 inches wide.
Here something important to remember. The style of Chandelier can change its seen size. Two Chandeliers of same physical size, but with different looks, one fancy and rich in details, the other simple and clear, take up differently much visual space.
No matter the kind, whether crystal, candle, lantern or sputnik-style, the sizes of the room stay key element. If the Chandelier is too big or too small, thewhole space will feel wrong, so precise choice of size truly matters.
